Rutland Country Club is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Rutland, Vermont.
The Rutland Country Club golf course first opened for play in 1902. The course (original nine) was designed by George Low. Wayne Stiles and John Van Kleek added nine new holes and redesigned the others in 1928.
In 1897, the "Rutland Golf Club" was incorporated and located on Clement Road in Rutland. In 1901, members of that club purchased the "Baxter Farm" and established the "Rutland Country Club". The "new course" opened over 100 years ago in 1902.
This course was built on hilly terrain and has undulating, fast greens. The fairways are in excellent condition. There is one creek that comes into play on five holes. The west side of the course is heavily wooded. "Golf Digest" rated this as the 2nd "Best Public Course" in the state for 1996, and also rated it the 4th "Best in State" course for the years 1995 through 1998
The Rutland Country Club golf course plays to 6,134 yards from the back tees for a course rating of 69.7 and a slope rating of 125. Par for the course is 70.

At only 6100 yards from the tips, this is one of the most challenging and aestheticly pleasing courses in the State of Vermont. Host course to this year's Vermont Amateur Tournament where the winning score was a respectable 7 over par. A premium is placed on putting the ball in the fairway off the tee, as the rough and forested areas can turn a good round into a disaster rather quickly. The work is not done when you reach the green. Subtle undulations and back to front sloping greens with many difficult pin placements are the equalizer for its relatively short distance. Meticulously maintained by a dedicated course superintendent and his staff. Full service clubhouse which is open to the public, offering daily lunches, dinners and facilities for outside functions.

The is an excellent course. Tough test but fair. The greens had just been punched but were still very good. Try it from the tips for some incredible views. I'll be back!!
